It’s got the sun, the sea, the marina facilities, the apartments and the nightlife: no wonder Benalmadena Marina is so popular and often voted Best Marina in the World. If you’ve got a boat of your own this is a great place to weigh anchor for a while along the Costa del Sol. If you haven’t got a boat this is the place to come and dream while looking at the 1,000 or more boats moored here.
For those of us who are marooned on dry land, the marina has an aquarium and also a beach with sun loungers and shades for hire. Or you can get out onto the water in a hired boat or kayak or even water skis. If you’re inspired by your aquarium visit then this is also a good place for scuba diving to see the fish at home under the sea.
The marina is a little village in itself and has around twenty tapas bars with terraces for enjoying the 320 days a year of sunshine, with other restaurants and bars dotted around. There’s shopping, too, when you need a break from that endless sun. Not quite authentically Spanish but none the less popular is the floating restaurant on the paddle steamer Mississippi Willow that tours around the harbor by day and evening.
Located in Benalmadena just south-west of Torremolinos, the marina is also known locally as Puerto Marina and there are apartments to rent and hotels within the area. But be careful: they also sell boats at Benalmadena Marina and you might be tempted to go home with more than just a suntan!
