Popular with Western expatriates and wealthy locals, the lengthy Sukhumvit Road and the surrounding districts are filled with nice hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. Pleasant cafes, spas, and hidden-away places of respite are interspersed with some of Bangkok’s most decidedly seedy destinations.

Bangkok’s cultural landscape is as colorful as it is diverse. On the darker side of an otherwise stately (if somewhat eclectic) assemblage of museums are a handful of institutions dedicated to the remembrance of things past that are entirely unpleasant.
