Brisbane Festival  – until September 24

Brisbane Festival is in full swing this month with a packed program of international and Australian artists and productions. Celebrating and promoting the city’s artistic culture, there are free outdoor events, home grown productions and fringe theatre at every kind of venue across the city.

The 2011 programme embraces dance, theatre, opera, classical music, visual arts, circus, sideshow and contemporary music and has a broad selection of free and ticketed events.

Not to be outdone by Sydney’s recent Vivid Sydney festival, Brisbane will also light up with images set against the rooftops, rivers and bridges in the South Bank Parklands area.

IDENTITY 2011: fashion week – September 16 & November 18

Hot on the Manolo Blahnik heels of Sydney and Melbourne’s fashion weeks, Brisbane is putting on a preening display of its own.

With its own fashion event inspired by the runway shows of Milan, Paris and New York, Brisbane’s Stephens Lane will be turned into a catwalk during the IDENTITY 2011 fashion week.

Taking place over two Friday nights in September and November, the catwalk festival will feature designs by CANALI of Italy, Bally, Halston Heritage by Sarah Jessica Parker, Valentino, Versace, and European label ‘Winter Kate’, created by Nicole Ritchie.
