The resort city of Cancun is a great destination for families looking to spend some quality time together and there are plenty of activities and family friendly attractions in Cancun to keep the entire family happy and entertained. From beaches and watersports to nature tours, eco-parks and ancient Mayan ruins, here are some of the best family friendly attractions in Cancun.

Cancun’s pristine white sand beaches are a top attraction and most kids will happily spend hours on the beach, building sandcastles, collecting sea shells, swimming in the calm, clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and jumping over waves. Families can also choose from a variety of kid friendly watersports such as snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing and riding wave runners. Cancun’s beaches are guaranteed to be the highlight of any visit to the Mexican Caribbean.

The world’s second largest reef system runs just off the coast of Cancun and the calm, clear waters of the Caribbean Sea are full of tropical fish and marine life. Some of the region’s top destinations for snorkeling include Cozumel, Puerto Morelos and the Yal Ku lagoon in Akumal.

If you can manage to pull yourself, and the kids, away from the beach for a few hours you’ll find numerous other family friendly attractions in Cancun. Take the ferry out to Isla Mujeres, visit nearby towns and villages, venture into the jungle for hiking, horseback riding and ATV tours, explore cenotes (limestone sinkholes), tour the Cancun Interactive Aquarium and spend the day at popular eco-parks like Xcaret, Xplor or Xel-Ha for snorkeling, wildlife watching, ziplining and swimming with dolphins and sea turtles – an unforgettable experience!

Finally, learn about the history and culture of the region with visits to ancient Mayan archaeological sites. The entire family will enjoy touring the ruins at Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba, all of which can be visited on day trips from Cancun, or the smaller El Rey ruins which are located right in the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone.
