Christmas in Cancun? Though traditional images of Christmas might involve snow and bedecked pine trees, the holidays down south can be equally as lovely, just in their own way. Not as hot as in the summer, yet miles away from the blistering cold of the north, Christmas in Cancun is both a solemn and festive occasion, the perfect mix of happy family time and vacation revelry. Sounds like a lovely tropical escape.
Christmas in Cancun can get a bit busy. Though a family holiday, the festivities are still on for those who want to head out and see what Cancun has to offer. Look into advanced preparations if you’re looking to head out to any bars or restaurants, because options can book up quickly. Several city buses run from the southern end of the hotel zone to downtown and this is a good option to take for a great foray into local culture. The buses are dressed up in festive style and the occasional guitar player might hop aboard and spoil everyone with a rendition of Feliz Navidad.
And while you might be out enjoying the beach, a piña colada and some festive water-sports, don’t expect to miss Santa. Word is that he appears in festive garb on December 24th and 25th at many of Cancun’s many festive resorts. So whether on jet ski, powerboat, helicopter or traditional sleigh, if you’re in Cancun for Christmas, be sure that while things might be toned down a bit, the spirit of Christmas still runs high in the tropics.
