On February 20, 1988, Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born in Saint Michael, Barbados. After working in a street stall and training as an army cadet, she dropped out of school to pursue a music career, leaving behind a substance-abusing father and schoolyard bullies.
Now Rihanna is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with a large handful of Grammy and Billboard Music Awards , a face recognizable to almost every teenager in the U.S., and over 20 million albums sold worldwide. She has been on Glamour´s list of 50 Most Glamorous Women as well as Maxim´s Hot 100 four years running, and signed endorsement deals with giants like Nike, CoverGirl, and Gucci.
Since she blends R&B with Caribbean style, it’s no wonder Rihanna has become one of the biggest recent symbols of Barbados. The nation´s flag has appeared in many of her videos and photoshoots, and she has been given an honorary title of Ambassador for Culture and Youth in her home country.
On August 5th, Rihanna returns to Barbados as part of her Loud tour, performing at Kensington Oval. General admission is $125. See her perform hits like “Love the Way You Lie,” “S&M,” “What´s My Name,” and “Only Girl (In the World).” Afraid you´ll miss out? Check the concert schedule for other upcoming cities!
