On Sunday, August 28th (2011), the Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon will promote fitness and good times by bringing its international skateboard-lovin’ – as well as dangling a $15,000 prize for the winner – to old San Juan.
The course: 8 laps, starting with Sixto Escobar Stadium, moving west to the old city, across Plaza Colon, then east towards the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee building and back to the stadium. Rinse and repeat. Medical personnel, hydration, and first aid stations will be set up for skateboarders’ convenience. Depending on how fit you are, the best part of your day could be the after-party with live music and an expo so participants can get to know some of the sponsors inside the Sixto Escobar park. (Although mostly used for soccer, the stadium was named after a Puerto Rican professional boxer.)
Other Adrenalina Skateboard Marathons take place in New York City on Governor’s Island on July 30th (see participants); Plano, Texas on October 16th; and Hallandale Beach, Florida, on November 5th. Some bus transfers will be available to the marathon location. All are welcome, but it´s recommended that participants be able to finish the 26-mile race in under 4 hours, otherwise road closures and support equipment may not be available. Helmet and shoes are required, and prepare for rain just in case.
Register here to participate, or rock up to watch the marathon pick up speed!
