If China is synonymous with anything, it has got to be the giant panda.
Cute as a button yet also a large and sometimes intimidating creature, the panda, a native to the country, has to be one of the more intriguing creatures roaming the Earth, and here in China there are plenty of places to catch a glimpse.
First and foremost, one should scope out the Beijing Zoo if a panda is what you want to see. Home to the largest number of animal species in the country, including gorillas, elephants and of course, bears, the zoo is home to the world famous giant pandas. Virtual celebrities of the zoo, these bears get special accommodations and are placed in a lovely hall always filled with delicious bamboo and several excited spectators.
Next up on the giant panda hit list are panda specific locations in the Sichuan Province, namely with a tour of the Chengdu Panda Research Center and the Ya’an Bifengxia Panda Base, including a giant panda encounter. The Bifengxia Giant Panda Base is just that, giant. In fact, the center is home to over 80 giant pandas and is the largest giant panda base in the world. Although the drive to is quite far from Chengdu, about 2 hours, it is also very beautiful and relaxing. It is also a major breeding and rescuing ground for the adored animal, with spectacular waterfalls, dense forests and picturesque beauty all along the large enclosure, making it also arguably one of the most beautiful enclosures.
