Late spring in Denmark is an ideal time to visit this northern country. During this time, the flowers bloom, the leaves turn that bright shade of green and the temperatures climb out of the winter freeze and become more mild. While spring in Denmark is by no means shorts weather, it is a beautiful time of year to get outside and explore the country and take advantage of off-season pricing.
Pound the pavement in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen is pedestrian-friendly and can easily take time to explore. There’s even an audio walk visitors can take that allows people to select a route through town, then listen to a guided tour. Shoppers will delight in taking a stroll down one of the longest shopping streets in Europe – Jægersborggade. For a more peaceful and private option, head to Assistens Cemetery and take advantage of a brisk afternoon walk and some quiet time among historic figures buried here, such as Hans Christian Anderson.
Scour the coastline for amber.
On a windy spring day, head to the shore to search along the banks for amber. These lumps of stone are unique keepsakes from a Denmark vacation and an entire afternoon can be spent searching through seaweed to nab a piece of history more than 30 million years old.
Rent a bike.
Like other Nordic countries, Denmark’s pristine beauty, little villages and varied terrain are perfect for biking. The country has 11 national routes which take cyclists throughout regions and towns. The routes are expansive and can take anywhere from five days to two weeks to traverse in their entirety. If that’s too much, there is always simply renting a bike and exploring cities on two wheels.
Hit the greens.
Denmark is quickly becoming one of the hot destinations for golf and is often referred to as “the undiscovered golfer’s paradise” thanks to its 140 courses spread throughout the country. Because of milder winters than neighboring countries, Denmark’s golf season starts earlier than others, with people being able to tee-off in early spring.
