So you’ve always wanted to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records? Well, this is your chance. And what better city to do it in than Dublin, Ireland, home of Guinness the drink and the Guinness family. On December 4th 2011, many many people will be gathering on South King Street in the center of Dublin (near St. Stephen’s Green) to attempt a world record in the most people wearing Christmas jumpers in one place. That’s right, Christmas jumpers, otherwise known as sweaters for all of you Americans.
Think about all those unfortunate presents you’ve been given by a knitter in your family, or a jumper that you bought yourself, when filled with the spirit of Gluhwein. What’s not to like about reindeer and snowflakes depicted in wool? The Irish have never been shy about wearing Christmas themed jumpers, so it’s not surprising that someone has come up with the genius idea to get them all together in one place at one time, raise some money for charity, and go down in world record history.
The event begins at 2pm and to ensure no one gets bored, there will also be a record attempt relating to the singing of Jingle Bells, so be prepared to make some festive noise. And of course there is an individual prize for the gaudiest jumper. So get knitting, sewing and appliqué-ing.
