Wakiki is a beach, and a gorgeous one, and surf lessons are readily available. The breaks are long and mellow and good to learn on. Duke Kahanamoku himself grew up surfing the waves there and later was dubbed with the epithet of “the father of modern surfing.” Not a bad accolade. Consider getting a lesson from a local tour operator or hotel. On the beach you’ll also find world-renown shopping, dining, nightlife, music, and exciting Oahu outdoor activity tours launching from the beach.
