At the heart of Hong Kong, Asia’s fast-moving, forward thinking global city, is Victoria Harbor. The stretch of water separates Hong Kong Island from Kowloon and offers views of Hong Kong’s famous skyline. Throughout the day, the waterway is a constant parade of Chinese junk boats, modern ferries and fishing vessels passing back and forth. While the metro is unarguably the fastest method of transportation between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, you should cross the harbor by ferry at least once during your stay in Hong Kong.

To visit the Tai O fishing village on Lantau Island is to see a way of life that has continued virtually unchanged for centuries. As a contrast to the steel and mirrored high rises of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, the modest buildings in Tai O stand on stilts in the water.
