Everyone in London has watched Western Europe’s tallest building rise into the skyline: The Shard is here and it’s going to change the way we view this city.
You can see the Shard from all over London, which is not surprising given that it is 1,016 feet (310 meters) tall and made of glass. Located on the south side of the Thames it is close to the river, close to London Bridge and not far from Tower Bridge, in the increasingly vibrant district of Southwark.
The building itself will have restaurants, offices, apartments, a five-star Shangri-La Hotel and a high speed lift taking you to London’s highest viewing platform with 360˚ views across the city. The view will literally go for miles, 40 miles across London, towards the green fields and coastline beyond. This has got to be one of the best ways to orientate yourself to this tangled, dense city with the snaking Thames at its heart.
The Shard opened to the public in early February 2013. Booking tickets for this view will be the new must-do for any traveler to London. Viator has London Shard tickets for this marvelous new monument, so book them now and get in early.
