Australians are famous for being great chefs and opening restaurants with interesting food and a relaxed, hospitable ambiance. One of Sydney’s favorite and famous sons is Bill Granger. Now he’s opened his first restaurant in London, bringing to Notting Hill some of the laid back Aussie attitude combined with the excellent food that made Bill’s so popular in Sydney.

Granger & Co is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, but breakfast has always been one of Bill Granger’s specialties. He’s brought with him his recipes for sweetcorn fritters and ricotta hotcakes – trust me, Bill’s breakfasts are yummy. Lots of breakfast dishes are still available for lunch, and the lunch menu features simple yet hearty things like sandwiches, soups and salads as well as more substantial meals. Dinner includes some of these plus specials such as a fish of the day, and barbecue options.

The restaurant brings the Australian attitude of good fresh food made into delicious combinations that won’t weigh you down or break the bank. And of course, being from Australia, Bill makes superb coffee. In line with his attitude of a hospitable welcome to all comers, there are no bookings taken, so you just need to turn up and wait for a table, or eat at times when others are thrashing their credit cards in the nearby designer shops or along Portobello Road.

London just keeps getting better for food. Granger & Co has my vote for most exciting newcomer to town. The address is 175 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill, London, W11 2SB.
