O.K. We’ve all been caught rocking-out in the guitar, pretending like we’re Robert Plant mid-way through his Stairway To Heaven solo. We are that good at guitar, or we could be, if we would only ever learn to actually play the darn thing. Well, it may be embarrassing to look over and see the person in the BMW next to you laughing hysterically, but what do they know, eh? They must, at least, respect your ability to rock, could you only.
Enter the U.S. Air Guitar Championships. Here, rock lovers such as yourself get the opportunity to be that in-the-car rock-star, up on stage and in real life, and put their sorta-rock skills to the test. Since 2003, these faux ax-men and women have rocked the stage and wowed their fans with hyperbolic displays of rock silliness. How could that be anything but a great time? Full rock get-ups, lights, and all the sundry peoples of the Los Angeles basin.
The rules entail playing for 60 seconds in two rounds of Freestyle and Compulsory and judges rank you on things such as transcending the experience into an art form itself, even without instrument. Think you’ve got what it takes? Get in there and find out. Earn your mettle (*snicker snicker*), at the Key Club in LA, this Thursday, July 14.
