Kuala Lumpur is known as a city of modern tastes, including its vibrant shopping scene, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other great activities to occupy yourself with, especially if you are already a little shopped out or cash-strapped.
One of the great free activities in KL includes not only a visit to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, but also exploring inside of it. Located on the third floor of this stunning building is the world class Galeri Petronas, a fine-arts gallery showcasing local artists that is completely free to the public. The gallery is constantly showing new exhibits so if you are a repeat visitor to Kuala Lumpur, you may like to make the trip a staple.
After a little fine art perusing, why not get a taste of crafts-culture at the KL Craft Complex, just walking distance from the towers. This lovely gem is located in a traditional wooden structure and contains workshops showing how local handicrafts such as wood carvings and cloth pressed batik are made. Fire away with any and all questions as helpful guides is more than happy to explain it all.
For a bit of fun outdoors, there are a number of free activities to enjoy around the town as well, including the city’s sprawling tropical lake garden park, Taman Tasik Perdana. As one of the best parks in the region, this beautiful oasis is full of exotic fauna as well as waterfalls, a deer park and other exciting attractions including an observatory, playgrounds and picnic areas. The park is always very relaxing, just be privy that it gets a bit crowded on the weekends.
