New Year’s Eve celebrations in Kuala Lumpur seem to always surround the hubbub going on at Petronas Tower, with an amazing public display that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Held by, the Ministry of Tourism at the KLCC, the explosive outdoor bash is full of exciting laser dancing, a Wild West style dance-off, a countdown, confetti bursts, live music and tons of fireworks.
This is the main attraction for people who have never been in KL, but there are going to be heaps of places to go leading up to 2013, especially if you are looking for something a little extra, perhaps some champagne. In this case, you are going to have to take the party inside, but there are loads of places to go, especially in the Bukit Bintang neighborhood.
During this time of the year the hotels, restaurants and clubs are doing their best to promote end of the year parties and other events, including well-known clubs like Vertigo and Club Neverland, but the best option remains to simply walk around and soak up the atmosphere.
If that doesn’t suit you, one of the town’s premiere event planners will be holding a huge party in the KL Tower that will feature a handful of international trance DJs from Moldova, the Netherlands, Argentina and the U.S. Though tickets are not yet available, they are traditionally a bit pricy. While in a lot of countries people will have a few customary drinks on the streets, one of the more important things to remember in Malaysia is that the law does not tolerate this and as the majority of the populace is Muslim, the people do not really tolerate it either.
