The first stop in our Leonardo da Vinci walking tour of Milan was to the museum of the Codex Atlanticus. Made famous in recent years from the novel and Hollywood film the Codex Atlanticus is a collection of his notes and sketches. After his death the thousands of drawing and sketches were scattered. Recently collectors have brought them back to Milan and reassembled portions of his work. The sketches on display in the museum are from a period of time when Leonardo was experimenting with optics.

A truly special experience is when you get to know and spend time with someone that originates from where you are visiting. That’s just what I got during my Italian cooking class in Milan. Chef Clara Raimondi opens up her adorable Milanese apartment with a sincere, warm welcome to anyone who is willing to put in a bit of work, make some new friends, and learn how to cook some true Italian food!

Milan has always been a city of great designers – from Leonardo da Vinci who was the court artist for the Duke of Milan, to Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Miuccia Prada, and Dolce and Gabbana. It’s not surprising then that this is a city which has defined how we shop as much as what we buy. (It’s the only city I know where the policewomen wear highheeled shoes.)
