Craving chocolate in Quebec? Here are our top picks for chocolatiers in Montreal!
Cute and colorful, this place only uses Valrhona chocolate, which is produced with a consciously smaller carbon footprint. They hand-decorate and sell a plethora of goodies: homemade marshmallows, pecan brownies, hand-dipped ganaches, vanilla caramel, candied ginger, sponge toffee, and even “praline sardines” (in shape, of course).
They also have milk chocolate with chai, dark chocolate with orange peel… And if you’re there on a weekend during wintertime, they have homemade drinking chocolate with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. (These guys also gets bonus points for having an absolutely adorable website.)
Slick, modern, and classy, this place feels like something Stanley Kubrick would have designed. It’s definitely on the fancy side, especially when it comes to packaging, and it even has extra space to lounge and take a break.
They have gelato (flavors include peppered strawberry, mango, green tea, and chocolate sea salt); “shooters,” i.e. chocolate cones with Tia Maria, Absolut, and other liquors inside; truffles of all kinds, like honey or mint; “cafe moka” domes; and even Belgian waffles. No trans-fat or preservatives in these chocolates… hooray!
If you’d prefer a sit-down-at-a-table moment with your chocolate, this place is a nice international hub of flavor; their chocolate comes from places you wouldn’t expect, like Madagascar and Ecuador. You can get drinking chocolate (some with whiskey or Bailey’s) with fresh fruit or ice cream – Fair Trade too.
But the definite must-eats are the crepes, like the pesto goat cheese with walnuts and the Savoyarde, the latter with potatoes, cheese, ham, and sour cream. And of course, the ubiquitous and incomparable Nutella. There’s also chocolate raspberry mousse and a chocolate fondue-for-two if you really deserve a treat!
