Neuschwanstein is one of Germany’s best-loved spots, with a constant stream of buses ferrying visitors between the castle and the nearby town of Füssen. But if you want to extend your stay in the area and get a great view of the Schloss, a vigorous yet achievable hike around the nearby mountain of Tegelberg is in order. Even without its famous neighbor this mountain would be remarkable. It surges up from an alpine field with no foothills as a preamble, to a height of 1,881 meters. The route to the top is well sign-posted from the ticket office for the castles.
