Orlando Day Trip: Antique Hunting in Mount Dora

Located about 40 minutes northwest of Orlando, the small town of Mount Dora might have been dreamed up by Disney himself. Restored Victorian houses are surrounded by oak trees and skirted by brick streets, perched on what passes for a mountain in Florida. Originally a winter retreat for Northerners (as many picturesque towns in Florida were), visitors arrived by steam engine to Mount Dora; visitors today can take a ride on a similar train, the Orange Blossom Cannonball. While Mount Dora could be a destination for its charm and history alone, what draws people year-round is treasure, in the form of antiques.
