Campra’s Opera-Ballet “The Venetian Holiday” (1710) inspired the title of this show, which fits well into the lasting fascination of Venice to Versailles. The serenity of Venice, Masterpieces of Vivaldi, and palace myths of Versailles come together for an exceptional event.

The Venetian Festivities recreate the spectacle of great nautical pyrotechnics on the Grand Canal in Versailles, with extravagantly decorated gondolas, fireworks and fountains every Friday evening until 15th July. The evening show promises to recreate the magnificence of the regattas organized by Louis XIV on the ornamental lakes of Versailles. Christophe Berthonneau has composed a modern evocation of these highly popular nautical entertainments, set to the music of the Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and surrounded by the spectacular gardens laid out by Le Nôtre.

Inspired by the Baroque aesthetic of Vivaldi’s masterpiece, a parade of gondolas from Venice, Paris, Oxford, Hamburg, Berlin and Amsterdam, rowed by collectors who revive the boating traditions of Venetian nautical circles, will glide across the Grand Canal. Enjoy the last rays of the sunset reflected in the ornamental lakes up to the Hall of Mirrors in  this unique setting with the magnificent Château and its gardens in the background. The walk from the ticket office to the terraces by the Grand Canal takes around 20 minutes, and buses will be available from the Place d’Armes of the Palace, going only to Versailles Chantiers station after the show finishes.

Venice is love, seduction, hidden intrigue hidden: it is Casanova! Starring John Malkovich as Giacomo, the musical extract from Mozart’s Casanova at the Opéra Royal promises to be a highlight! Written by the ‘libertine librettist’ Lorenza Da Ponte, who knew Casanova personally and used his exploits to build the character of Don Giovanni. The most beautiful arias from The Marriage of Figaro, Cosi Fan Tutte and Don Giovanni work especially well together, as part of the associated Venice Versailles Vivaldi.
