With warm weather and outdoor vibes galore, there are plenty of family friendly activities in Phoenix that make it both an engaging and easy place to travel with children.

Summers in Arizona can often be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), and visiting hotter locations with the family means that any activity involving a bathing suit is a potential choice for a day-long outing. The Arizona Grand has a highly rated Oasis Water Park with a wave pool and eight-story tower. Big Surf Waterpark has 2.5 million gallons of water in the Waikiki Beach wave pool and numerous twisting slides. Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix has a new Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr. kid-size water park, with smaller versions of the rides, spray zones, water toys, and leisure rafting.

Amazing Jake’s Food & Fun has a buffet with pastas, pizzas, a salad bar and desserts—oh, and Go-Karts, Mini-Golf, Bumper Cars, a climbing wall, bowling, a roller coaster, and Laser Tag. It’s in Mesa, just 20 miles (32 km) outside of Phoenix proper, and is a great place to let the kids get some of that energy out.

You can try something new by going to a puppet show at the Great Arizona Puppet Theater (tickets are slightly cheaper if purchased in advance). The Arizona Science Center has a Planetarium, an IMAX theater, and numerous interactive exhibits. The Hall of Flame Fire Museum is a fun way to learn about firefighter history and fire safety, and the Children’s Museum of Phoenix offers more artistic means of expression and education.

Animal lovers may want to visit the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium (which has a giraffe feeding station, baby animal nursery, and Dragon World with some intense-looking reptiles) or the Phoenix Zoo (with camel rides, a Stingray Bay and Monkey Village), the latter voted in the top five of kid-friendly zoos in the country.
