The Aventine Keyhole View of Rome

When in Rome, do as the Romans. And since the Aventine Keyhole is where the locals bring their friends to marvel over the splendour of Rome, you should not miss out. It’s just a little bit off the beaten tourist track although you might still find yourself having to wait patiently while others take their turn to look through the ornate keyhole at the splendid vista of St Peter’s Basilica floating at the end of an avenue of carefully trimmed trees. It might not sound that exciting but what is special about it is the sense of artistic vision which went into creating this perfect sightline, and which really is the drive behind the aesthetic splendour of the Rome we go to admire.

What’s that? You don’t really like art? Then why are you in Rome? Good thing there are plenty of monuments. From the ruins of the Empire to the church relics, Rome is pretty much a huge museum. Even people who aren’t interested in art will marvel at the sweeping perfection found in Renaissance mainstays such as the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Borghese Gallery.

What’s that? You don’t really like art? Then why are you in Rome? Good thing there are plenty of monuments. From the ruins of the Empire to the church relics, Rome is pretty much a huge museum. Even people who aren’t interested in art will marvel at the sweeping perfection found in Renaissance mainstays such as the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Borghese Gallery. You can find good deals on Skip the Line tours of Rome, but these are without a guide, and I really think you’ll get more out of your trip if someone is telling what makes all that artwork important, in addition to what makes it beautiful.

Rome Tours: Segway Tours & Walking Tours

Like most ancient cities in the world, you could spend weeks in Rome wandering the streets, exploring ruins and reverently tiptoeing your way through art museums. It would really behoove you to get a tour. Rome tours vary. Since a lot of them take you over the same stuff, go for the one that looks like it will give you a funny story when you get home. Like, for example, a bike tour. Or better yet, a Segway tour.
