Before taking a trip to San Francisco‘s Golden Gate Park, be forewarned. This beautiful, placid bastion of relief might leave you feeling like your local park is no longer up to par. Don’t let its rectangular shape fool you. Golden Gate Park has something to capture your attention and transport you to a land far far away wherever you find yourself enjoying its 1000+ acres. Hundreds of healthy trees, towering windmills, a Conservatory of Flowers, a carousel and even a herd of Bison top the list of the park’s attractions.

Additionally incorporated into the park, you’ll find the California Academy of Sciences, the M. H.  de Young Memorial Museum, the Music Concourse, Rainbow Falls, a Japanese Tea Garden, and several lakes. Not bad, eh?

On any given day, you can stroll through its shaded pathways and find pickup games of football, kickball, ultimate Frisbee and a bevy of picnickers out enjoying the California weather. If you choose to stroll and don’t embark with a specific destination in mind, consider wandering up to the top of Strawberry Hill where you can enjoy one of the best views of the city. If, instead, you choose to pick one of the parks excellent destinations, consider yourself lucky. Not many parks offer so much, regardless of size. Just one more of the things that makes San Francisco great.
