Glasgow is a very cool city. The city center is full of great little bars and places to eat. Here are a few recommended:
1) Café Gandolfi
A great little relaxed, comfortable but classy place. Good food, coffee, tea and not over-priced. It’s in the Merchant City area, once home to warehouses and the central food market and now redeveloped for high-end shopping, bars and cafes and inner-city living. You can even try haggis here. 64 Albion Street, G1 INY
2) Willow Tea Rooms
In the midst of the main shopping streets is this Glaswegian tradition. This is the original of the Willow Tea Rooms, designed by local hero architect Charles Rennie Macintosh who designed everything from furniture to staff uniforms. Great ambience, history and breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. 217 Sauchiehall Street, G2 3EX
3) Hillhead Book Club
Between Glasgow University and the Botanic Gardens is the city’s newest cool bar and hangout. They’ve got affordable cocktails, retro video games, table tennis, bingo nights and a good vegetarian menu as well as meat and fish. 17 Vinicombe Street, G12 8BE
4) Horseshoe Bar
A renowned old local pub dating from 1864 with a grand interior. Expect good beer, good whisky and lots of talk about football. 1-19 Drury Street, G2 5AE
5) Brew Dog
Opposite the Kelvingrove Museum (a must-visit) is this recently opened Glasgow branch of a brewing company based in Fraserburgh, north-east Scotland. It feels like a warehouse and has casks littering the place so you know the beer is fresh and unique. 1397 Argyle Street, G3 8AN
