Christmas in Singapore is unsurprisingly glitzy and commercial, and it’s a spectacle that is well worth witnessing. In fact, the entire holiday season (from early November to mid-January) is a nonstop explosion of lights, consumerism, and hedonistic celebration.
At Marina Bay, Orchid Road, and various other resorts, a truly stunning array of light shows and excessive ornamentation are unleashed on shoppers and tourists alike. Street performances, mall displays, and shopping promotions all vie for your befuddled attention. Even if you aren’t in much of a spending mood, these boggling displays are an attraction all on their own. The Fairy Tale Christmas installation at Resorts World Sentosa features carolers, bands, drummers, and mascots from fairy tales, as well as dazzling holiday-themed decorations and dining options, all of which are designed to capture the spirit of Christmas (Christmas in Las Vegas, perhaps, but Christmas nonetheless).
If you find yourself counting down to the New Year in Singapore (there are worse places to do it, to be sure), the place to be is Marina Bay, where the pyrotechnic extravaganza promises to mark the occasion memorably.
