As a major hub for travelers around the world, there is perhaps no country in Asia more qualified to take on the extravagance and worldly appeal of New Year’s Eve than Singapore. Indeed, all around town from high-end hotels to public spaces, there is a place for everyone to join in the world’s most famous countdown.
Certainly one of the best places to spend New Year’s is around Marina Bay, where a lot of the action is sure to happen. With numerous hotels there offering deals for the evening, finding a place will not be the question as everyone there will enjoy the fabulous fireworks display at the Bay. One of the most talked about parties of the evening will take place at the Marina Bay Sands, which will open up the rooftop restaurant and lounge. This is sure to add a whole new element to the general fireworks display.
Other general areas considered to be great for first-timers in Singapore include the many great bars and restaurants located at Clarke Quay or City Hall. Just know that taxis will be hard to find, so if you plan on moving from one place to another, it is best to choose places that are ‘walkable,’ for example, between Clarke Quay and Marina Bay.
For a more family-friendly New Year’s party, take the kids to Universal Studios, which will be open until 1am on December 31. If you’re looking to escape the urban feel a bit and the certain mass of people to be in the more popular parts of town, head over to the beach at Tanjong, where you can hit up one of a few clubs that will start the party before the sun goes down.
