The World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park, which lies west of Sydney, offers a unique opportunity to see the natural landscape and eucalypt vegetation of the New South Wales region.

While many visitors explore the highlights of the Blue Mountains on an easy day trip from Sydney, it is worth staying over for a couple of nights to explore the townships and hike through the bushland without the crowds. Popular places to stay include Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls.

Popular things to see and do in the Blue Mountains include:

Jenolan Caves: this maze of limestone tunnels is still largely unexplored and contains subterranean rivers and caverns rich with mineral deposits.

Three Sisters: trek to this three-pronged, sandstone formation that towers above the Jamison Valley. Approximately 900 meters (2,952 feet) tall, they are an impressive sight, and the ‘Giant Stairway’ and Katoomba Falls are nearby.

Scenic Walkway & Cableway: The Scenic Cableway takes you on a journey through and above the forest canopy. From the Skyway platform you can see 360 degree views of the rainforest including the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls, Mount Solitary and the Jamison Valley. The Scenic Walkway is an easy trek through the forest to Marrangaroo Springs.

Blackheath: this old colonial town is surrounded by gorgeous views and numerous bushwalking tracks.
