If you’re traveling through British Columbia at the end of 2012, Vancouver is a great spot to ring in the new year—most of the parties, though, are indoors (think tickets and dresses, not parks and blankets). With scenic harbor views, moody skies, and plenty of events on the schedule, you’ll be glad to experience the festivities in such a vibrant, friendly city.

There are too many perfect ways to celebrate the holidays in Vancouver to list them all – but if you’re going to be here in December this year and could use a little extra holiday spirit, here are five fabulous ways to celebrate Christmas in Vancouver:

Even though Halloween arrives on a Wednesday in 2012, you’ll still be able to enjoy the famous Vancouver festivities—some of which start up weeks before the big day.

Americans have July 4th, and Canadians have July 1st. Colloquially referred to as Canada Day, it celebrates the Constitution Act of 1867 – essentially, the day when Canada established some independence from the British Empire and was officially formed by uniting Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada. And similar to July 4th in the U.S., parades, fireworks, sporting events and barbecues abound. Even internationally, Canadians love to honor their nation’s birthday by sporting the maple leaf and gathering for celebrations in squares and parks around the world.
