Just about everyone knows that the holidays in Washington DC are quite spectacular. The capital of the United States gets all warm with Christmas cheer though the temperature dips. And afterwards, well there’s New Year’s Eve to look forward to. If you find yourself in DC this New Year’s Eve, get ready to ring in the New Year with style.

Gala events, parties, dance clubs, entertainment, concerts, you name it—DC’s got it. Many of the area’s hotels have special packages and parties lined up for those wanting to do a bit of one-stop shopping for things to do this New Year’s Eve. The Washington Hilton over on 1919 Connecticut Ave, NW will feature a premium open bar, hors d’oeuvres, 3 bands, 4 DJs, comedians, karaoke, dancing, and the DC area’s largest balloon drop. Pretty impressive. Oh, and did I mention that Third Eye Blind and The Dirty Heads are playing?

If that doesn’t ring your New Year’s bell, then how about the idea of a dance-off? Over at the JW Marriott Hotel (1331 Pennsylvania Ave, NW) you’ll find yourself amidst a black-tie four-course dinner, complimentary champagne toast, and an international dance competition.

If you’re sick of the typical New Year’s Eve things to do, however, consider a departure into the extraordinary and ring in the New Year aboard a touring boat cruise on the Potomac. Dining and dancing are offered on many riverboat cruises, and the open sky, the view of the DC skyline and the soft swish of the water beneath you make a perfect chance to be festive, romantic and reflective, all in one starry night.
