Cruising along the Limmat River: One of the many Romantic Things to Do in Zurich.

Zurich’s picturesque Old Town, framed by the spires of the medieval Fraumünster and Grossmünster Cathedrals, makes the perfect setting for the many romantic things to do in Zurich. Stroll the cobbled streets of the River Limmat, lined with atmospheric Jazz bars and bijou cafes, or opt for a scenic cruise around Lake Zurich. In the summer months, head to the Orange Cinema, where you can snuggle up under the lakeside stars and watch a movie on the giant open-air screen.

Those looking for the perfect location for date night will find plenty of romantic dinner spots, where you can sip Swiss wine and share a gooey bowl of cheese fondue, the country’s most famous dish. Zurich’s real specialty however, is its chocolate, and there are few better aphrodisiacs than a trip to the Lindt chocolate factory where you can learn the secrets of the master chocolatiers and over-indulge in delicious Swiss chocolates. Alternatively, the legendary Sprungli café has been devoted to producing some of the finest handmade chocolates since 1859, with a wide selection available to eat in or take away. Located on Bahnhofstrasse, the café is surrounded by Zurich’s priciest designer shops and jewelry boutiques, the perfect spot for picking up an extra special Valentine’s Day gift.

Of course you don’t have to stay with the city limits to enjoy quality couple time – take the train up the nearby Uetliberg mountain for an incredible panoramic view of the city, explore the castles and rose gardens of Rapperswil on the other side of Lake Zurich or picnic beneath the cascades of Europe’s largest waterfall – the Rhine Falls. Skiing trips from Zurich are another popular option, where you can hit the slopes or take a snowshoeing trek through the alpine wilderness, before huddling around an open fire in a cozy mountaintop chalet. For the ultimate view of the Alps, take a train ride to the top of Europe at Jungfraujoch – the continent’s highest railway station at 11,333 feet (3,454 meters) and home to the Sphinx Observation Terrace overlooking the Aletsch Glacier.
